Culturally Responsive Crisis and Recovery Support for All, with Specialist Focus on Global Majority and Marginalized Communities

Sentinal Nurture Placements exist to provide safe, community-based spaces for individuals aged 16+ navigating mental health challenges, transitional care needs, or psychosocial crises. Our services are open to all, but we offer a specialist focus on supporting individuals from Global Majority backgrounds—including African, Caribbean, South Asian, East Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and other marginalized ethnic groups—who often face systemic barriers to culturally competent care.

We provide 24-hour supervised accommodation and holistic support for:

1. 🧒🏽 Young people leaving care or identified as requiring additional support.

2. 🏥 Individuals discharged from hospital who need rehabilitation and reintegration support.

3. 🧠 Those experiencing mental health crisis, including early signs of distress, requiring stabilisation and coordinated care.

Our multidisciplinary approach includes collaboration with social services, community mental health teams, GPs, and other statutory and voluntary sector partners. We aim to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions by offering early intervention, culturally attuned care, and sustained recovery pathways.

Key features of our model include:

• 📄 Advance Choice Documents (ACDs): Empowering service users to shape their care preferences in advance, ensuring autonomy and dignity during periods of crisis.

• 🧩 Bespoke Care Plans: Co-developed with individuals to reflect their cultural identity, lived experience, and recovery goals.

• 🏡 Community-Based Alternatives: Evidence-based residential support that prioritizes safety, satisfaction, and reduced clinical harm compared to hospital settings.

• 🤲🏾 Culturally Competent Staffing: Our team is trained in anti-racist, trauma-informed practice, with lived experience and cultural insight central to our care delivery.

Sentinel recognizes that Global Majority and marginalized ethnic communities are disproportionately affected by stigma, misdiagnosis, and exclusion in mainstream mental health systems. Our nurture placements are designed to challenge these inequities by offering culturally safe, person-centred environments that promote healing, agency, and long-term wellbeing.

We are proud to contribute to a more inclusive care ecosystem—where every individual is seen, heard, and supported, and where cultural identity is not a barrier to recovery, but a foundation for it.

All staff are trained in mental health awareness, mental health first aid, and crisis support. Observations and care plans for service users are stored and reviewed in our CRM system. Advance Choice Documents are mandatory for all service users and are completed during the transition into placement. These documents are used to create co-produced care plans with the service user and Sentinal, outlining actions to address well-being and care needs. These plans are regularly reviewed.
